Honeymoon Day 3 - Legoland!!! Oh yeah, and other stuff too.

Our third day in San Diego for the honeymoon was our first full day with our rental minivan, so we wanted to make use of it while we had it. So we decided to drive North out of town, through La Jolla, and eventually reach LegoLand in Carlsbad. On the way back, we had some more fun on the beach by the hotel, before heading back downtown. The night would end with a very romantic dinner cruise (yeah, that's right, I'll admit it), that we had booked the day before. It was a very fun, relaxing day to have.

So I was pretty excited when I got up, after all, we were heading to Legoland! I can't imagine a land more exciting than a land filled with legos! So we got up and hopped into the minivan and decided to just kinda drive along the coast for a while. We figured we could pass by La Jolla and check out the beach area there on the way up to Legoland, which is about 40 minutes north of where we were on Pacific Beach.

We came to this area on La Jolla near the seal hangout and figured we would stop. You see, there was this wall built out a little ways from one of the points so they could make a little area sheltered from the waves so that kids could play in the water and be safe. But instead, the seals took it over, so now its a cool place to stop and watch seals swimming around. So we saw this beach area close to there that was weird because the waves were breaking very sharply because the beach was very steep. So you wouldn't even see the waves, then all of the sudden they would be right up on you and pretty big. Then, because the beach was so steep, it would feel like the waves were sucking you back out pretty hard. Katie got all close and personal with these waves.

After we were done playing around there, off to Legoland!!!

So you may be thinking, "What a bunch of losers! They went to Legoland on their honeymoon?? Dorks!". Well, shut it! It was really cool there. But yes, there are a TON of kids there, and a ton of kids rides, I can't imagine doing that place in a day with waiting to do all the rides. There is this area of the park with lego models of US cities. It's totally amazing. The first part you walk into is a model of the Las Vegas strip.

They have most of the hotels on the strip, and what was the coolest part is that they even had the Treasure Island pirate ship battle on display, with the girlies on one boat, the guys on the other, and even had water splash effects like the real show does.

Right next to the Las Vegas model is the New York city model. Complete with the new Freedom Tower that is just HUGE compared to anything else.

And all of the people in the city models aren't the ones we are used to, where you just snap the feet
into another brick. The people are actually made out of other lego parts, and it was amazing how they got them to have different poses and doing random things. Check out more pictures in the Legoland picture album.

Here is a full model of San Francisco including Lombard street.

And also there was a model of Washington, DC.

The Washington, DC model picture we took from an upper level that we ended up walking to because there was a special Lego art exhibit. They had actually taken a bunch of famous art, and reproduced the art using legos. It was really cool to see. Katie couldn't help herself at having me post next to the "Thinking Man" sculpture replica.

So yeah, you probably get the idea, there was a ton of cool stuff there, even for big kids. We made our way through the lego shops, that had a ton of fun stuff. Katie bought me a Star Wars Millenium Falcon keychain type thing, and before we left, I needed to get my picture taken with Darth Vader.

So we left Legoland and slowly made our way back to the hotel and downtown for the dinner cruise with Hornblower Dinner Cruises. We got a killer discount (2 for 1) on the cruise. It was a 3 hour tour (a 3 hour tour), through the harbor where we would get to see Coronodo Island, the aircraft carriers that were part of the military base stationed in San Diego, and we could see the whole waterfront as it was a REALLY SLOW cruise. To take 3 hours to go around the harbor is quite hard, we were probably going 10 miles an hour the whole time, which was good for Katie's motion sickness tendencies. Anyways, it was a great meal, and a really fun time.

Day 3 was done, and we were looking forward to our Friday at the zoo and getting rid of our stinkin minivan.
