Our First Date

Our First Date - Story as told by Jeremy

The day started off pretty fun, dirt biking at Hemmingway Butte with Jon M and Dan S after a big breakfast over at Jon's house in Nampa. In the middle of breakfast, I got a call from Katie to set up our big night. I never like to make too many plans, so I wasn't even sure exactly what we were going to do for the evening, but I felt like I should make sure to have a plan in preparation for the phone call, so I tried my best.

Dan had recommended that we go to Da Vinci's Italian restaurant in Eagle, ID. Dan had taken Suzi there on their first date, and well, that worked out pretty good for them since they're married with kids now. But I most importantly wanted to pick a place neither of us had been to. I had been instructed that it isn't good to go to a place where anybody has any good or bad memories of past relationships and eating at that place, so I gambled and hoped that Katie hadn't ever been there. I was right.

I knew that I wanted to do something fun after dinner, and on the phone I had mentioned ice skating or go karting, but really didn't make any for sure plans. After thinking about it, the last thing a girl would want to do on a first date was put a helmet on and mess up hair, so that option was out. And even though I owned a pair of ice skates, Dan highly advised me to NOT bring my ice skates with me. It's not cool to try and show up your date on a first date with your fancy skates that make you look like a professional, even though the skates don't make me any better. Skating went good, we were both on about the same skill level, so it worked out as perfect as I could have imagined.

After skating, we went downtown to Ha' Penny Irish Pub to grab a drink and interrogation by Katie. I felt like afterward, I should have qualified to be hired for a job or something, for all the background history questions Katie was firing off at me. Even though I don't think I asked enough questions back, we really learned a lot about each other and I didn't mind at all.

We left the bar and headed over to 7-11 to get some colored ice in a cup (slurpee), then I really didn't want to have to bring her back home because the evening had been so great, so I just aimlessly drove around. But then, I thought that was probably a little creepy, so I figured I would take her home finally. We ended the night with a hug and agreed on meeting up the next time Katie was in town.

Our First Date - Story as told by Katie

When I called Jeremy to set up our first date, he was out having dinner with some friends. He said he would call me in the morning to set something up. His friends must have told him he was crazy for not trying to make some sort of plan, because I received a phone call from him a short time later. We decided at least on dinner and he said he would call the next day to make plans. He told me we could go to a "fancy little Italian restaurant" in Eagle...which sent me into a bit of a panic...which turned into a bit of a shopping spree. I hadn't brought clothing home that was suitable for a "fancy" restaurant. Saturday was spent at the mall with a friend finding cute "dressy" pants and fun jewelry.

Getting ready for the date started around 4pm. Jeremy was picking me up at 6pm, so I wanted plenty of time to get all dolled up. I was decked out with my new "fancy" pants...and then, I freaked out. Was Jeremy going to be dressed to the nines? Was he going to be wearing jeans? Am I overdressed for ice skating? Am I underdressed for the restaurant? I was pacing through the house, driving my family crazy, and praying Jeremy was actually going to show up, since it was April Fool's Day. We finally decided my family would be on the lookout for Jeremy and would let me know what he was wearing so I could quickly change if I needed to. When he finally arrived, my mom first yelled "He's wearing a suit!" which was quickly followed by, "Wait! He's wearing jeans!" I instantly decided to change into my jeans, which meant my family had to meet this guy at the door and he would have to sit with my family until I was done changing.

When I finally made it upstairs and saw Jeremy, all I could think was "Wow! He's a great looking guy!" We went to DaVinci's for a wonderful dinner and then went ice skating. I somehow managed to not fall while we were skating. It was great to burn off a little energy...and nervousness. Then we went downtown for drinks at Ha' Penny and talked for hours. I don't remember it being quite the interrogation Jeremy seemed to think it was, but I was really interested in him and wanted to find out more from him. We rounded out the evening with a classy dessert of slurpees from 7-11. I actually loved that we did that as it was spontaneous and simple. We spent another hour or so just driving around town and then Jeremy got me home at about 2 am. We realized we had spent nearly 8 hours with each other, just on the first date! Jeremy hugged me good night and we planned to get together again. It was the most amazing evening I'd had.
